Apparently Lopez Obrador is still desperately trying to sell the presidential jet. He told a bunch of people that he’s going to offer the airplane to Donald Trump... Perhaps to replace the, rather new, C-32 that Mike Pence is supposed to use.
Evidently, Lopez Obrador needs to understand that American Presidents aren’t supposed to fly twins... For safety you know... and what kind of superpower buys their jets used from their crummy neighbors?
Lopez Obrador said, and this is a direct quote:
“I came to Torreon via comercial, and from there I took the highway. There isn’t a presidential jet anymore. We’re selling 73 airplanes and helicopters (... ) a jet that not even Donald Trump has. I cannot understand why he doesn’t buy it, We will sell it to him! Next time I speak with him, I will offer it”
Clearly, this terrible teen still exists, it still belongs to the Mexican Federal Government... and selling it still represents a very bad idea...
Also, since the 787 is so cheap to fly, and since Lopez Obrador loves flying around the country... I do wonder if it would’ve been cheaper for him and his staff to just fly the damn thing rather than buying
tickets on regular jets and keeping the 787 in California on a leased hangar because god forbid the jet is actually in it’s country of registration
.

Seems hard to believe they are having such trouble selling a jet Boeing has a such a backlog for, though maybe the VIP configuration is hard to convert to airline use. Even then, you’d think some rich guy would be pleased to own a presidential plane as his executive jet.
Trump actually does fly on the C-32 fairly frequently, especially for his trips to his golf course in New Jersey, but also to places farther afield, but also for other medium to short trips, and especially campaign stops.
Given Trump, it seems highly unlikely to be to save money, but maybe he likes it more because it is newer, more like his personal 757, or maybe he thinks it just looks better as a back drop. Also it has shorter stairs .

American presidents aren’t supposed to fly twins, but the C-32 regularly ferries one particular president from DC to a New Jersey golf club.

Doesn’t VC25 have service stairs he can use?

I thought the whole reason it took a super long time to finally buy a new AF1 is because of the “not a twin” requirement

That's for the big jet that flies over water.

Yes, and he uses them sometimes!
I’m pretty sure if you look, you can find him tweeting about negatively about Obama using them (after China failed to provide an air stair), but by sanity can’t handle reading his tweets anymore.
In any event, nice work by the airmen who polished that aluminum, that’s good shine.

Ah, well. Then I guess that if Trump wants a new shuttle to take to New Jersey... we’re selling it for like 100 mil.

Bigger deal for long distance flights and flights in hostile territory (Trump’s not well-liked in the northeast, but we aren’t likely to shoot him down). They probably also have a contingency plan to quickly get him to more survivable plane if anything happens.

The C-32 is very well maintained. Only the finest 757 operator handles that. ;)

Just give us the jet and we’ll call it a down payment on the wall you’re buying.

What’s the asking price?
Personally I’d want something British or European like an Airbus for something that size. But if the price is right.

Depends who’s asking, but around 100 to 150 million dollars. The market at the moment is a bit depressed, and the jet is one of the terrible teens that would have less range in a commercial config.

I’ve spent the last hour or so looking at controller.com at aircraft, some are nice, but amenities or lack of let them down. Some are too garish, some too old and some no price.

I think it’s the only VIP spec 787 on sale right now, it’s practically brand new, and it was maintained by the Mexican Airforce (which surprisingly, has a great rep)
